Come and explore what authentic
community is all about.
This is the nineth in a series of intentional community
weekends.
Two years ago a group of nine people met over a period
of three months to explore the nature of authentic community. While
they were coming together as a community themselves, they decided that
in order to show what such a community would be like they would create
such a community over the course of a weekend. Eventually 128 people
came together at Tone River, just outside of Manjimup, for what proved
to be just the first of these events. The event proved to be outrageously
successful. Organisers were aware that some who came were living on
exceedingly low incomes. At the end, all the money left over was put
into a hat and passed around the circle of participants. People were
invitated to take as much as they needed. Surprisingly more money came
back in the hat than set out in the first place.
In subsequent months, other Community Building Weekends
same to be organised at
- Balingup,
- Margaret River,
- Noman's Lake,
- Pinakarri (Hamilton Hill),
- Denmark and
- Bunbury (November 2000).
As the disaster in New York shows, we humans were meant
to be living in caring and supportive community, but industrialised
lifestyles makes this almost impossible.
Come and see what Intentional Community Building is all
about at Popanyinning.
