Healing the body, Healing the Earth: Vivienne's Prophecy Vivienne commanded the doctors that they were not to use military metaphors when refering to her condition. Searching for a new way, she realised her cancer was the result of a breakdown in communication, in which the cancerous tissue was unable to respond properly to the communication of her brain, and was behaving selfishly - mining her brain to grow new cancer tissue. All day Friday she was seeking to re-establish communication with the cancer. That evening the cancer "spoke". The following is the prophetic vision that Vivienne shared with John at 2.30pm three days before her operation at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Who will hear the sound of the earth crying? who will feel the earth suffering? she's hurting i am hurting her sickness is my sickness i love this earth i am aware of her suffering oh god, i am not fantasising i can feel it we must wake up to the earth suffering we must stop putting holes into her she is our blood and flesh she is me and we must start feeling her pain. my pain is her pain and its everyone's pain everyone's pain. and if we can not start feeling her pain we will die. and that's why we are hurting, because we try to be numb. numbness is death. the earth is one. We are the earth. The earth is us. We must feel. feeling keeps us alive. healing keeps us connected. And she is crying I feel her pain. We must all feel it, so we can stop hurting her. Feeling brings me back to life Feeling brings me back to the earth. The earth is my mother, the earth is my father My sister, my brother. The earth is me, the earth is precious. We are all precious. So long as we are numb, the hurts will still keep coming The hurts mean being alive. No feeling equals death. Once we stop hurting the earth and each other We will be happy again, and we can come home to precious earth again. The earth loves us as we need to love each other, ourselves. I can feel the earth. She wants us to feel again. To come back to life. Its then that the suffering stops. It is up to us. Its up to all of us. If the earth hurts, I hurt. We all hurt. We are one being, we are one living being, Earth. Await, I am listening to my body. And earth is my body. What I do to my body, I do to earth. Only love will heal it all. Earth can show us how. And then we will all be happy. Thank you for being there. This cancer is the earth speaking. All of our cancers speak for the earth. Oh my god, put your hands on me. Today I am going to lie on the earth. To let the earth heal me. The tumour is telling me, If I don't hear it, it will not go away. It came as a messenger. It will come in all of us, until our bodies are covered with tumours. They are our messengers. To come home to the earth. To come home to our bodies. And all of the poisons we are putting in her body, in my body in your body... You cannot pour ink into a glass of water and think that it will not spread. Yet that is what is happening. And to be healthy, we must start hearing the song of the Earth. Only then will we come and heal our tormented self. Listen to the earths heartbeat. Listen to your own heartbeat. Listen to each others heartbeat. The myriad beings who share this precious earth It's the same heartbeat. Oh god, its nearly done. I am not some kind of Messiah. I am a simple woman. Awake. Everyone can feel it. Anyone can heal it. Put your ear to the earth. If you can't hear it, if you stop long enough, you can. Put your ear to the earth until you do. If you can't feel it, put your hands into the earth Until you do. If you can't see it, look closer. See her creatures. They will tell you. There is just a tiny bit more, and then I sleep. This energy running through me is nearly done. Let me look into your eyes, so that I can see your suffering. Once more, a tiny bit... Your suffering. So I can see your suffering, as well as your joy. Let us grow in our feelings. I am losing the last bit. Let it go...let it go... Through this cancer, the earth is borrowing me to speak. the cancer said if you try to shut me up i will shut you up i will speak aloud if you don't want to hear me i'll speak louder. I am no guru. I am just a simple woman. I am awake. The cancer has spoken. We need to hear it. We all need to hear it. If anything comes, I'll let you know. The trembling has stopped. I feel quiet. Blessed be, it is done it has spoken. All I know is I have to keep listening. It may keep speaking. It doesn't matter, I will know when, and what I have to know. What's happened so far: Wed 16th June: John Croft and Vivienne Elanta flew to Tasmania at the invitation of Gaia Members Shar Molloy and Col Bradshaw to run workshops in Dragon Dreaming and Deep Ecology Vivienne reported severe headaches and sought relief with panadene forte. Tues 22nd June: Vivienne's birthday - picnic at the Weld Valley. Vivienne's last environmental action. The codeine in the medication causes severe constipation. Wed 23rd June: Vivienne reduces painkillers and headaches return, so that for the last two weeks in Tasmania she is confined to bed. Fri 2nd July - Tues 6th July: After the second workshop Vivienne consulted a local GP and is prescribed another painkiller. Wed 7th July: Upon return to WA a GP on a house call stated that it was vital to overcome the constipation. Thurs 8th July - Mon 12th July:: Vivienne sought the support of Dawn & Ivan Halbert to get her bowels re-established Thurs 15th July: Margaret Whittle and Basil Schur visit, and Margaret stays to look after Vivienne whilst John is working in Denmark Fri 16th July: John leaves for Denmark with Basil Sat 17th July: Vivienne Admitted to Royal Perth Hospital after falling down repeatedly Sun 18th July: Vivienne reports that she has at last emptied her mind of all judgementalism against herself and others Tues 20th July: On returning from workshop in Denmark John is called to Hospital and informed by the doctors that Vivienne has a lesion deep in her brain, possibly cancerous. Thurs 22nd July: Vivienne is transferred to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) Ward G52 at Sir Charles Gairdiner Fri 23rd July: The Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) confirms a deep cancer, operation is planned for next Tuesday Fri 23rd July - Mon 26th July: A second opinion is sought from CharleTeo in Sydney. He confirms diagnosis that the cancer is basically inoperable. Sat 24th July: Vivienne receives prophecy at 2.30am Mon 26th July: Vivienne gathers friends for last time and asks for their blessing, and gives blessings in return, announcing her intention to go ahead with the operation. Tues 27th July: Operation goes ahead at 2.30 pm and Vivienne when she recovers is in accute pain, unable to recognise John or her daughter Lana Thurs 29th July: At 1.30am Leith Maddock calls John to the hospital where he is informed Vivienne will be dead by morning. At 3.00am Emil Popovic the Surgeon, reopens the theatre to reduce the pressure and after a 4 hour hour operation temporarily saves Vivienne's life Viviene temporarily recovers but still cannot speak. Her communication is reduced to squeezing a hand when she answers questions Fri 30th July - Thurs 5th Aug: Vivienne's mother (from Adelaide), sister Vera (from Tasmania) and brother Robert visit Wed 4th Aug: Vivienne's last supper (soup) fed to her by her mother, who sings German nursery rhymes to her daughter. Thurs 5th Aug: The Great Vivienne Break-out Project. Vivienne returns to Gaia House. Fri 6th Aug: Organisation of Roster and Logistics at Gaia House. 7th Anniversary of Pilgrimage Project Sun 8th Aug: Vivienne speaks last. Said "Mmmm.. Nice" when fed tiny piece of Mango. Mon 9th Aug: Vivienne in pain - her morphine line occluded - her treatment increased and Vivienne loses consciousness, but spends afternoon in garden. Tues 10th Aug: Vivienne recovers consciousness, spends day in the garden. Kaaren Peterson arrives from Sydney Wed 11th Aug: Cold Front arrives. Skye Swan departs. Thurs 12th Aug: Kaaren Peterson Departs Mon 16th Aug: Vivienne dies between 7.40 - 8.00am in the morning Wed 18th Aug: Vivienne's Celebration 9.45am - 1.30pm at Kings Park, 2.15 - 4.00pm at Karakatta Sat 21st Aug: Vivienne's ashes return home to Gaia House. 1st Vivienne memorial service held 3.00pm - 6.00pm Vivienne was diagnosed with an inoperable glialblastoma cancer located in the corpus callosum. This is the area of the brain which connects left and right hemispheres of the brain. The left hemisphere is responsible for language, for logical reasoning and sequential rationality, the right hemisphere is for intuition, whole of field, gestalt recognition. The human brain contains about 100 billion nerve cells (about as many as there are stars in the Milky Way), and about twice as many glial cells, that insulate the neurones. The cancer tissue is thus difficult to separate from the brain. The cancer is closing the Ventricles which produce cerebro-spinal-fluid (CSF) at the rate of 40 ml per hour. Vivienne's ventricles are already occluded by the tumour and they appear inflamed. If these had been fully blocked, Vivienne would have been dead within the hour as the central ventricles would fill like balloons squeezing Vivienne's brain down through the foramen magnum at the base of the skull. After the operation Vivienne would slowly come to sleep more and more, gradually going blind as the pressure grows upon her optic nerve. Eventually we were told she would fall into a coma from which she would never recover. What caused the cancer? It is impossible to say. Certainly the speed with which it developed suggested a very recent origin; possibly some time around the period of the Transit of Venus at the 8th June 2004. Linked to gliobastomas is the ERBB2 gene, a gliobastoma derived oncogene homolog, which when activated may have led to the malignant tumour developing. Why do we carry such cancer causing oncogenes in our genome? It appears that oncogenes should be deleted from our genetic makeup by natural selection, but the fact of their presence suggests that they have an important secondary function (or rather a primary function) somewhere in the body. Oncogenes are frequently activated in the foetus, when developing a new organ. Rapid proliferation of cellular tissue leads to the development of the "platform" from which a new organ develops. In developing a new organ connecting the left and right hemospheres of the brain, was Vvienne again pointing to a direction for human evolution?
