GAIA THEORY, SUSTAINABILITY & ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS IN NATUROPATHIC PRACTICE

A three day residential workshop

Location: Mt Helena Theosophical Centre

Dates: 9.30am Saturday 14th December - 4.00pm Monday 16th December 2003

    THE NATURE OF THE COURSE

    This workshop aims to re-root Natural Medecine in the natural world. It will develop within you a truly holistic foundation from which to practice. The learning will be participatory and exploratory.

    Within the understanding that the Earth is a living creature of which we are a part we will explore

  • The nature of the therapeutic relationship
  • How the suffering of the natural world effects our health as individuals and as a community
  • The importance of acknowledging despair in healing
  • The environmental sustainability of the natural therapies industry, endangered herbs, packaging, excipients, social justice issues
  • Self empowerment and individual gifts for the healing of ourselves, each other and the planet

    This course has been offered as an elective in 2002 and 2003 in the Diploma of Applied Science (Naturopathy) degree at the Perth Academy of Natural Therapies.

    THE FACILITATORS

    John Croft has been involved in community building and environmental activism both personally and professionally for the last 25 years at different levels including - teaching: previously at Edith Cowan and Curtin Universities, and in a variety of formal and informal settings - training and consultancy: for youth, women, community building and environmental action programs in Australia and overseas. - community building and environmental action practice with non-government organisations. government and other agencies.     Vivienne Elanta is a long term activist and Deep Ecologist. She has been involved in countless projects to help bring about a shift from the current Industrial Growth Society to a Life Sustaining Society. She has a great love for trees and frogs. Her passion lies in facilitating Deep Ecology Work. She has been involved in, and extensively trained in this work in both Western Australia and interstate over the past 12 years.     Eloise Charleson is a practicing Naturopath, Naturopathic Lecturer and past Board Member of the National Herbalists Association of Australia. Her passion for Deep Ecology and Eco-Psychology led her to adapt the work of Joanna Macy - the experiential deep ecologist and social and environmental activist to specifically look at the connection between the health of the environment and the health of the individual.     From Perth proceed along the Greta Eastern Highway to Sawyers Valley, from there take Sawyers Road to the left; continue through the Mount Helena town junction to the right; proceed 1.5 km along Bunning Road and the retreat is on your right. The property lies on the corner of Bunning and Mildura Roads.

     

    WHAT TO BRING

    • Vegetarian food to share (9 meals: 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches & 3 dinners) We will be cooking together as an important part of learning sustainability
    • Bedding - sheets, pillow case, blankets and/or sleepting bag
    • Torch
    • Cushion to sit upon
    • Massage table, massage towel and massage oil
    • Journal writing and drawing material
    • Appropriate bush clothing, hat, sun-screen etc
