FREEDOM THROUGH POWER

Two workshops to inspire stories and experiences of being powerful, loving human beings

Held at Dadirri Biospiritual Centre, East Fremantle

              • Weekend December 1st and 2nd
              • Evening December 7th & all day December 8th

    WHY?

These workshops are for men and women who care about the Earth and social change and are interested in exploring the intimate connections between patriarchy and the global crisis.

The workshops will confront and go beyond the gender limitations which deeply affect each of us and our world.

We will together explore experiential processes that are designed to facilitate understanding of ecofeminist insights ~ focusing on the interrelating power dynamics of gender, class and race, and how these constructions are integral causes of the environmental crisis.

We believe that understanding the interconnectedness of these issues in practical, intellectual and emotional terms is important for personal wholeness and sanity, and for the growth of environmental and social movements for change.

    WHAT CONTENT IS BEING OFFERED?

We will explore ecofeminist insights and strategies for change through active group processes and sharing of experiences. The workshop processes will include and encourage emotional and creative expression, ritual and meditation. They will assist us to look at how we see and treat ourselves, each other and the Earth – within the context of patriarchy and the current world crisis.

These creative processes will facilitate relaxation, honest self-reflection and a safe space for the sharing of our fears, despair, rage, gratitude and joy. We wish to acknowledge the love and compassion we feel for the Earth and all beings, and also the confusion and suffering that can accompany a sense of urgency for positive change.

Specific processes will be designed to help us explore - dualisms, fears of becoming whole and of the radical intimacy that arises from breaking through our defensive separateness

    ~ power-over conditioning
~ gender limitations and other forms of identity oppression
    ~ eco-feminist theory
~ transforming insights into effective personal, community-based and political action

    HOW IS THIS BEING COVERED?

The residential workshop is for women and men who wish to

~ heal from the effects of power-over energy, and become more sensitive to its effects on others
~ identify how gender oppression and other dualisms are some of the root causes of corporate globalisation and the environmental crisis
~ challenge patriarchy within environmental and social movements.

The non-residential workshop is for men and women who wish to discuss what men can do to

~ uproot conditioned patriarchy in their ways of being, doing and relating
~ learn how to talk with other men about patriarchy, particularly as it plays itself out in relationships and in broader social systems
~ co-create ways of uprooting institutionalised patriarchy and dualistic power-over energies in organisations and in other spaces in society.

Participation in the residential workshop is not a pre-requisite for the non-residential one, though you are welcome to do both as they will be different.
