WHAT IS EARTH VOICES? Earth voices are glad voices and Earth voices come up from the ground through the plants and their flowering. And in the days before these days are come they do tell the earth songs to the wind. Seven years ago my partner, Vivienne Elanta felt inspired to start an environmentally friendly "green" business, which aims to bring high quality "earth sensitive" products to individuals and groups throughout Australia. In particular, it aims to provide information - books, tapes and videos - that help to make a difference in changing our lifestyles. How can we make this change? We need to inform ourselves more about our present reality, and skill ourselves to work and support each other in making the changes we require. Information which would contribute to furthering the movement to an environmentally sustainable, peaceful, democratic and socially just world community are difficult to obtain and except for major best sellers, are rarely stocked by most bookstores. Right now we are being asked to make the biggest change ever required by any human culture. World population is doubling, and the gap between rich and poor is still widening. Those of us living in rich countries need to closely examine our wasteful, high-consumption, throw-away lifestyles. We need to live more simply so that others - people, animals, plants and wild places - may simply live! The materials we sell through Earth Voices come from the Earth, from the trees, rocks, rivers and oceans of the planet. We have to consider, in fostering consumption of these books, tapes and other materials, that the benefit they will bring to the Earth is sufficient to warrant their being sold through Earth Voices. Earth Voices has a strong commitment to sustainability, to putting back what we take, and for that reason it pays a 10% donation from its profits to the Vivienne Elanta Memorial Fund at the end of each financial year. These funds will go to projects that will supporting activism in Western Australia.
